A small win: removal of bus shelter outside Sandridge lifesaving club

An early Christmas present! The bus shelter that blocked the shared path near the Sandridge lifesaving club, Port Melbourne, has been removed. Hopefully new seating and shelter for bus passengers will be coming soon.

In 2019, we were taking then Port Phillip councillors Ogy Simic and Dick Gross to look at the problem. The advertising hoarding on the bus stop obscured the sightlines, so people riding past couldn’t see either passengers waiting, or oncoming cyclists. The problem would have been almost solved if the ads had been removed from the glass sides of the bus shelter.

And we were back in 2021, with new councillors Heather Cunsolo and Peter Martin hamming it up in the bus stop. Sometimes it takes a LONG TIME to fix small problems.

A woman on a bike, wearing a pink jacket, is pretending to ride into a man wearing a yellow jacket. They are in front of a bus shelter.

Thanks Dan and Lorelle for the photo and the heads up!
